Great guide to Bumbershoot

Everyone needs a guide to the huge Bumbershoot Festival taking place at Seattle Center this weekend, and the Seattle Weekly has provided it on- line. While you're on the site, be sure to read Adrianna Grant's review of Instant Coffee's installation, Nooks: If You Lived Here, You'd Be Home by Now, each of the five nooks a replica of the original built-in kitchen table and benches. Nooks is organized in collaboration with the Henry Art Gallery's associate curator Sara Krajewski and Betsey Brock, the Henry's associate director of communications and outreach. 'Working together, Betsey and I identified Instant Coffee as a great fit for the festival,' explained Krajewski, "because they create happenings."
Since Bumbershoot pretty much takes up an entire day to really see it all, be sure to click on Jonathan Kauffman's article to help you find the good places to eat.

D’Adamo/Woltz Gallery, 307 Occidental Ave. S. in Pioneer Sq., features Seattle artist, Simona Foggitt for First Thursday Artwalk in August and continues the exhibit until September 4. Simona combines brushed aluminum (giving a stainless steel appearance) with canvas.

Opening First Thursday at Davidson Contemporary Gallery, 310 S. Washington, is Steven Heino, who is fascinated by off-beat industrial materials -- he cuts, sands, and collages phenolic cloth (normally used in Boeing airplane interiors), paints with automotive enamel and lacquer, experiments with acid stains, and exploits polyurethene and copper. Shown at the right is his, Limb to Limb, 2007. Also opening is Donald Holden, whose watercolors are included in over 40 museum collections around the world, including the British Museum, Metropolitan Museum of Art, National Gallery of Art (Washington, DC), Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Victoria & Albert (London).

Davidson Gallery Antique Print Department at 313 Occidental Avenue opens for First Thursday with "Introductions 2007," which features the work of ten print artists new to Davidson Galleries. Artists included are Ben Beres (Washington), Dean Bowen (Australia), Elaine Chandler (Washington), Jonathan Higgins (Illinois), Wuon Gean Ho (England), Ben Moreau (Washington), Briony Morrow-Cribbs (Washington), Marianne Ogilvie (Germany), Geraldine O'Reilly (Ireland), and Jenny Robinson (California). A wide range of styles and printmaking processes are represented.

Lisa Harris Gallery celebrates the Pike Place Market Centennial this August with solo exhibitions by two of its longest-standing artists. Both Kent Lovelace and Lois Silver spent some of their early years at the Seattle's historic Public Market over 25 years ago. In these exhibitions, Lovelace focuses on the agricultural landscape, while Silver examines the Market's people and places. The reception takes place August 2 from 6-8pm, and both shows are up until September 1.

La Familia Gallery, 117 Prefontaine Place South, opens First Thursday with a two-year anniversary group show featuring Jason Stauffer,'s  Wire Sculptures, Michelle Anderst's Scenes in Oil, and Tom Albers',  Mixed Media.

Punch Gallery, 119 Prefontaine Place South, presents Resistance, a two-person exhibition by convergent artists Andrew Kaufman and Donna Stack, who have jointly distilled wide-ranging ideas into sculpture, video, works on paper, and installation. The William Traver Gallery Seattle , 110 Union Street, presents "A New Look at Silver," a solo exhibition featuring new work by the renowned metal smith and University of Washington Professor Emeritus, John Marshall. Also on view is "Viridescence," a solo exhibition featuring new work by Vashon Island artist Eric Nelsen. The show’s title means “the quality or state of being green in color.” The sculptures featured in the exhibition are all green in hue, mimicking the patination found on excavated ancient bronze sculptures. Finally, the gallery introduces the Portland-based Japanese artist Jiro Yonezawa in his first solo exhibition with the gallery, "Crossroads." a selection of the artist’s technically masterful, uniquely expressive woven bamboo and mixed media sculptures
