Chinese contemporary art is hot

According to an article in the NY Times Chinese contemporary art is so hot Sotheby's has even formed a contemporary Asian art department. Local Chinese antiques dealers tell me the newly-wealthy Chinese are also buying antiques like there's no tomorrow. 

Art world scandals

I think you have to register to read the Forbes Magazine site, but it's well worth it. They just posted a slideshow of six scandals "that shook the art world." Most interesting reading.

Northwest Coast masks out of sneakers?

Art is supposed to make you expand your horizons, but making native masks out of Nikes really takes it to another level. Matthew Kangas says "Young people are storming the Vancouver Art Gallery in droves to see "Brian Jungen," the show by the wildly popular Canadian artist who makes Northwest Coast First Nations masks out of Michael Jordan Nike sneakers."
