Issues of Periodization and Categorization in Modern Chinese Painting: A Symposium in Honor of Michael Sullivan takes place at the Seattle Asian Art Museum in the Stimson Auditorium.Leading scholars and artists gather to discuss and assess modern Chinese paintings in their historical contexts during this two-day symposium. Panel discussions, an exhibition tour and closing remarks by Michael Sullivan take place on Saturday. Puget Soundscape: A Community Celebration of Puget Sound through Art, Ecology and Culture will witness a joint effort and comprehensive experience offered by many of Seattle's leading cultural, educational, and governmental organizations to help people better understand the Puget Sound watershed and its far reaching impact and influences. The kick-off party, hosted by Pioneer Square Community Association, takes place in Occidental Park on Saturday, June 2, 2007 from 6-9pm for an evening dancing under the stars to jazz music by Sonando. Many of Seattle's leading art galleries will present exhibitions around the Puget Sound theme and/or partner with a non-profit environmental group that works on behalf of Puget Sound. An event website and brochures have been made possible by grants from The Russell Family Foundation, the Kongsgaard-Goldman Foundation and King County. 16th Annual San Juan Artists'Studio Tour takes place June 2 and 3 from 10AM   to  5PM. A self-guided tour of 12 working studios with over 31 participants includes sculpture, jewelry, pottery, printmaking, glass, fiber and fine art. Eva Lake goes national

Our very best wishes to Eva Lake, Portland artist and former host of Artstar Radio in Portland, who is branching out with a weekly podcast covering visual art in America produced by Voice America on the women's network . Eva's program can be heard every Wednesday beginning May 30 and will include interviews with artists, critics and other art writers, curators, collectors and other people who work in the art world. Spiritual art at home

Writing for the Seattle Times, Sheila Farr says, "The worst nightmare of most serious artists is having their work labeled "decorative" — as in something that looks good above the sofa. Then along comes Claudia Fitch, one of the region's topnotch sculptors, and makes decorativeness look not only respectable but profound."
