Four artists in “Expressionist Landscape” open at ArtsWest November 29

artswest Ian Painter, Beata Metzalaar, Anne Simernitski, Susanne Werner, Pierre Gour and Garth Amundson open in a show called “Expressionist Landscape,” on November 29 at ArtsWest Gallery, 4711 California Avenue SW in West Seattle and runs through December 31. A wine and cheese artist reception and conversation with the artists will  take place December 10 from 6-7:30pm.  The  show features diverse representations of nature, from abstracts to atmospheric open spaces. Jaime Ellsworth & Tom Small at Waterworks Gallery in Friday Harbor

waterworks Waterworks Gallery, 315 Argyle Street in Friday Harbor, opens from 4-8pm on November 28 with a holiday fete for artists Jaime Ellsworth and Tom Small. The show runs through January 3. The gallery is also offering a “Girl’s Night” at the gallery on December 10. Ruth Offen, owner, says, “Bring your wish list!! “First Snow” at Arctic Raven Gallery opens November 27.

arctic raven Arctic Raven Gallery’s fifth annual, “First Snow” Holiday show featuring Northern Native art, opens Friday, November 27 at 10:00 AM, 130 First Street, Friday Harbor. The gallery will stay open late from 5:30 – 7:30 PM for a hot cider reception open to the public. For more information call 360-378-3433. Gallery hours are 10AM – 5 PM (Mon, Thu, Fri, Sat.) and 11-4 PM (Sunday). The show will run through Christmas. According to gallery owner, Lee Brooks, the show is an “intriguing collection of intricately carved animals and dancers made of Inuit stone, Alaskan fossilized whalebone, and ivory. All come from the far north, when carving begins during the ‘first snow’ of the year.” Shown:  Dancing Walrus Axangayu Shaa 14"h x 15"w.

30th. Annual Allied Arts Holiday Festival of the Arts On Meridian in Bellingham. The festival is located in the Squalicum Corporate Park in the old Cascade Furniture building, just south of Bellis Fair Mall on Meridian across from the Bellingham Golf and Country Club.  Lots of art ranging from jewelry to paintings to wearable art to specialty foods. Weekends are packed with activities; hear live local music, catch artists in action. Open weekly, Wednesday through Sunday, 10am to 6pm. Maria Grazia Rosin exhibition at Experience Music Project

EMP An installation of glass video and sound, “Gelatine Lux,” the work of Maria Grazia Rosin, opens November 21 from 9am – 5pm November 21 at Experience Music Project, 325 5th. Avenue North at Seattle Center. The artist will be present from 9 a.m. to Noon for EMP|SFM members, and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. to the general public. Bainbridge Island to rally for the arts November 23 from 6:15-7pm

Now here’s a community that is most serious about their arts funding!  Their press release says, “If you (or your kids) have ever visited the Historical Museum, attended a play at BPA, played at the Kids Discovery Museum, bought a work of art at BAC, taken music lessons at IMG, listened to a concert, musical, or poetry reading, please come to the Rally for the Arts. The Cultural Element of our city’s Comprehensive Plan is truly at risk. Bring your kids, bring your neighbors, and bring your friends to prove to the City Council that Bainbridge values our cultural organizations.  Wear RED to show you care about the health of Bainbridge Arts and Culture.” All who are interested should be in front of City Hall on November 23 from 6:15-7pm.

“Hear What You See” at Catherine Person Gallery

“Hear What You See,” a solo exhibition by northwest painter Squire Broel is on view at Catherine Person Gallery, 319 Third Avenue S. in Seattle, through December 19. Broel's work is in numerous private and public collections throughout the US, and he has participated in solo and group exhibitions throughout the Pacific Northwest, Canada, Austria, Vietnam, China and Indonesia.

Cheryl Lee’s botanical ceramics at Good Earth in Bellingham

good earth Good Earth Pottery located at 1000 Harris Avenue in Bellingham’s Historic Fairhaven district, is featuring the art of Cheryl Lee for November. Lee’s hand-built botanical ceramic vessels create vegetarian displays. The exhibition is on view through November.

“Urban Chic” at Cole Gallery in Edmonds through December 14

Cole Jeanne Edwards’ “Urban Chic” opens at the Cole Gallery, 107 5th. Avenue in Edmonds, on November 19 in a champagne reception for the artist from 5-8pm. Edwards' subjects range from plein air scenes in the pasture to hair salons and cooks in the kitchen. Shown: Sous Chef.

Margie Livingston’s Riff-New Paintings at Greg Kucera Gallery

Greg Margie Livingston, 2006 recipient of the Betty Bowen Memorial Award from the Seattle Art Museum, opens in her fourth exhibition at the Greg Kucera Gallery, 212 Third Avenue South in Seattle. The reception for the artist will be November 19 from 6-8pm and a walk-through of the exhibition with the artist is scheduled for December 5 at noon. Concurrently opening at the gallery is Edward Wicklander’s “Recent Sculpture.” Wicklander has received numerous awards and honors including, Art Matters Fellowship Award, New York (1996); GAP Grant, Artist Trust, Seattle (1993); Artist Trust Fellowship Award, Seattle (1990); and the Individual Artist's Fellowship Grant in Sculpture (1988). Fine Impressions Gallery welcomes winter with “Snowflakes”

fineimp On view through December at Fine Impressions Gallery, 8300 Fifth Avenue in Seattle, is a showing of Michael Lawlor’s photographs produced from the original Wilson Bentley glass slides. “Urban Presence” group show at Bherd Studios Gallery through December 11

Bherd Urban_Presence-var Bherd Studios Gallery, 8537 Greenwood Avenue North, is featuring a group show through December 11 called, “Urban Presence.” The show includes: Kevin "Sensei23" Sullivan and Zachary Bohnenkamp of graffiti mural team Matamuros, aerosol artists & muralists Solace, Ego and Cash. Ninjagrl is back with her characters; plus Akimbo of Snug-guns returns with the hand made, non-violent plushy pistols and hand grenades. An encore reception is scheduled for December 11 from 6-9pm.
