Full Moon Art Gallery, 3155 Harborview Drive in Gig Harbor, opens from 5-8pm during Gig Harbor’s Thursday Night out – “Meet Me on the Waterfront” with artist of the month Kathe Robel. Robel is displaying her glass art work, and each piece comes with a hand-crafted metal stand by the artist. Featured in front of the gallery is music entertainment by Gig Harbor’s own Dane Wallace playing his guitar and singing.
Gage Academy of Art, 1501 10th Avenue E. in Seattle, opens from 6-8pm with “Any Day.” Guest curated by artist and Kang-O’Higgins Atelier graduate Elana Winsberg, “Any Day” is a dialogue about death. The exhibition includes painting, fiber work, prints and installation by Mitch Albala, Josie Furchgott Sourdiffe, Sam Hamrick, Emma Jane Levitt, Kathy Liao, Greg Lundgren, Iskra Johnson, Memuco, Pamela Durga Robinson, Kurt Vance, Margaret Swanson Vance and Elana Winsberg. The show runs through September 19.
SAM Gallery, located in the downtown Seattle Art Museum, presents Liz Tran at the Taste Restaurant during the opening reception from 6–7:30 pm. On view through November 9, the exhibit channels geodes, flowers, outer space, and The Big Bang, Liz Tran’s mixed-media paintings explore the shapes of nature and the psychedelic colors of her imagination. Created as a form of therapy during Seattle’s long, grey winters, Tran’s work creates an atmosphere that is brighter, more playful, more colorful, and more content than the world in which we exist. On August 14th the Schack Art Center‘s main gallery, located at 2921 Hoyt Ave. in Everett, will be filled with maritime scenes, seascapes, and landscapes as it honors painter Joan Pinney, the 2014 Schack Artist of the Year. Pinney is an accomplished watercolorist who draws inspiration from her extensive travels in the Pacific Northwest. Since 1992 the Schack (formerly Arts Council of Snohomish County) has selected one artist to honor as its "Artist of the Year". This professional artist is someone who is recognized by his or her peers for their considerable accomplishments and contributions to the visual arts in and beyond Snohomish County. Twilight Gallery, 4306 SW Alaska St. in Seattle, is featuring work by Laura Castellanos, Mary Coss, Levi Hastings, Tim Manthey, Naoko Morisawa, Hanna Myers, Lynn Schirmer, Siolo Thompson, and Kate Vrijmoet in a show called “Boundaries” The show opens fro 6-9pm.
